Unit #3 - The Middle East
Resource Library

Regional Importance and Introduction:  The Middle East was home to some of the World's oldest civilizations such as Mesopotamia and Ancient Egypt.  These civilizations created many important things: government and the first laws, writing, a number system, oil lamps, and even the wheel.  Also, three of the world's great religions began in this part of the world: Judaism, Christianity, and Islam.  Today, the region is a major producer of oil--a vital resource to the United States--and home to lots of conflict and war.

Learning Target #1:  I can identify the major physical and political features of North Africa and the Middle East.
