Unit #7a - The United States and Canada
Resource Library

Regional Importance and Introduction:  The United States and Canada are very alike and yet also very different as well.  The U.S. has a huge population and a huge total GDP.  GDP stands for "Gross Domestic Product" and is a total number in dollars that were produced in a country during a year.  While Canada has a much smaller population and a much smaller total GDP number, it produces a GDP per capita (per person) number that equals, and in some years is greater than, the GDP per capita number in the United States.  We begin our world-wide study of countries and cultures with the countries and cultures we think we know best: the United States and Canada.
